Summary
Two Friends BOSEM Class 7
“Two Friends” is a story translated and adapted from a Gujarati narrative by Pannalal Patel. It portrays the genuine friendship between two young boys, Mani and Abdul, whose parents were farmers. During the Holi festival, Mani and Abdul strolled arm-in-arm, wearing identical shirts. When Abdul received a new shirt, Mani persuaded his mother to procure the same shirt for him as well. Observing them dressed identically, some mischievous boys taunted them, prompting a wrestling challenge. Mani declined, not wanting to ruin his shirt. However, Kaoba forcibly dragged Mani to the ground.
Witnessing this, Abdul lost his temper and wrestled with Kaoba, resulting in Abdul’s shirt being torn. Concerned that Abdul’s father might punish him, Mani suggested they exchange shirts. He reassured Abdul by pointing out that, unlike him, Abdul had a mother who would protect him. Overhearing their conversation, Abdul’s father, Hassan, was moved by Mani’s words and requested Mani’s mother to allow him to raise Mani as his son. The story of Mani and Abdul’s bond quickly spread throughout the village, reaching the village headman, who declared that Mani and Abdul exemplified true friendship.
