Rani Gaidinliu Chapter Summary:

Rani Gaidinliu was one of the great leaders who struggled against British colonial rule. Moved by the injustice in society, she joined the Zeliangrong movement led by Haipou Jadonang at the very young age of thirteen. She was very influential and cleverly mobilized the people to fight against British colonial rule in Manipur.

She was even sentenced to life imprisonment for actively involving herself in an armed struggle against the British from 1931 to 1932. She protested in Guwahati Jail too, against the inhospitable conditions in the prison. Besides her struggle against the British, she also firmly believed in her culture and religion. She also wanted to protect the identity of the Zeliangrong people. She died on 17th February 1993 in her native place, Tamenglong, Manipur. She became a legendary figure and is still remembered for her courage and sacrifices.
