The Olympics have evolved into a joyous and unifying event that brings the world together every four years in honour of Zeus.
Initially, there was only one sport in the Olympics, and it was exclusively for men. However, as time progressed, many new sports were added, and women began participating as well. The victors were awarded a silver medal and a crown made of Olive branches, while the runners-up received a bronze medal and a Laurel crown. Gold medals were introduced in 1908 during the London Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) now oversees the Olympic Games, which have been hosted in various cities worldwide.

Major Rathore notably won India’s first silver medal in the Olympics, a proud moment for the nation. Manipur has emerged as a prominent participant in national and international sports events, with its hockey players competing in the Olympics. Nilkamal became Manipur’s first Olympian, paving the way for many more athletes from the state.
Several female athletes from Manipur have excelled in the Olympics, bringing honour to their state. In the 2004 Athens Olympics, two Manipuri women represented India in weightlifting. Kunjarani competed in the 46kg category, and Sanamacha Chanu competed in the 52kg category. Kunjarani narrowly missed a medal, finishing in 4th place.
